I taught at New York State Sheep and Wool Festival last month, more fondly known as Rhinebeck to most fiber enthusiasts. It's no wonder with that mouthful!
I'd like to say it was amazing all around but Maegan and I's journey was fraught with car issues. My faithful Subaru began misfiring about halfway through the trip which set us back a few hours we couldn't really afford. We abandoned my car at a Monro Tire & Muffler in Clarion, PA and were transported to a teeny little podunk airport in DuBois, PA where we picked up a teeny compact rental. No big deal until you realize we have 4 spinning wheels, dying equipment and supplies, and all of our luggage for a 3 night stay. Fortunately I'm a pro at car Tetris. On to New York we went!!!!
We had a lovely stay at our AirBnB with a hostess who was extraordinarily kind and generous. Her Victorian home was in the process of being remodeled on the outside (the inside had been restored almost fully already!) and it was GORGEOUS! Her sweet clan of kitties kept us company and our feet warm while we slept too.
This means early mornings and not nearly so late nights (I don't think a bedtime before 11 PM will ever quite be something I can do) will become normal. While I am not an early riser I am looking forward to having some time.
Looking at my products page, I'm really pleased to see that even though I am starting to incorporate a few neon colors in my palette, my work flows well and is cohesive, recognizable. Even when I incorporate another artist's fiber into my wirecore for my jewelry I like that it challenges me to work with colors and textures I may not have. Like Maegan's amazing bright white alpaca blend with neon noils here.
I've been working on lines of products, though I hate referring to them as "products" like that. To me, it takes the handmade feeling out of what I do by just using a word. On my banner I say "fiber goods" and that feels more home to me, like my hands still touched it, because each and everything thing I do requires a lot of process and handling. A main goal that I began work on earlier this year is having color ways be consistent across all of my goods. I would like to have my colorways be available in all types of batts, punis, dyed top, and even creeping into my jewelry. Small batch production is key.

This method of working came about more so because I realized how much more productive I was being with my jewelry vs. fiber because I always make small batches of each component, assemble, and move on to the next type I am low on. It is working out extremely well in my fiber work now and really adds cohesion to my booth setup.

The other reason I began working this way is that the majority of my work is about texture. My batts are modest in size, 2 oz for Betty's and 2.5 oz. for Bricobatts, but still a decent amount for a small project. Many people want project quantities so working in multiples and having all of my fiber goods coordinate gives several options for stretching the materials enough for a whole range project sizes.

I want people to realize how usable fiber preparations can be even when they look too pretty or too funky to spin. So many exciting things that be achieved when you try something new. I have noticed a great resistance in traditional spinners to a lot of the seemingly new preparations and range of color available now at fiber shows. More on that next time...Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03597570721624735891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606207992587128364.post-51065685812788585322016-08-05T12:36:00.003-07:002016-08-05T12:42:17.477-07:00Macro Lens for your cell phoneI few months back I decided to try a month free of Amazon Prime and went on a small shopping spree. One of my purchases was this little set of lenses for my cell phone's camera.

They actually came with a little clip for each one but it is easier to just carry one in the little pouch they came in. The lens on the left serves double duty as a FULL SCREEN or a Fish Eye lens. I played with them a little bit over the week of the fourth of July. Joe, Gareth, and I had been grocery shopping near the airport that the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show is at every year and came out to a scene of hot air balloons launching so we stayed and got a free show!
The other lens serves as both a Wide Angle and a Macro. I don't use the wide angle much but the Macro was the whole reason I purchased these. I was really disappointed that I still was having trouble getting good detail shots of my jewelry. Texture is really the theme of all of my work so when that is not being conveyed well enough, I don't feel like the photo does it justice.
What happens behind the scenes of a one woman indie fiber business? Well, a lot, but not always what you would expect.

Today I watched my nephew and had some running to do, mostly for the kids. Hard things... like dropping off a preschool application. I'm torn between feeling incredibly sad that he is already 4 (well... will be in a matter of weeks) and elated that I could have 4 whole days a week to go to my studio and work. Set hours. Structure. I need that.

After my nephew got picked up, I decided I would do a little photographing and thought it would be a great time to try out that new Instagram stories feature. Well... it didn't work out very well. I think I deleted about 12 failed attempts and decided that since I already had been about to share my new photo setup (it's genius!) that I would just periscope it.

Gareth totally crashed the periscope session. During and immediately after, I thought... "what a disaster!" Then I watched it and I loved it. I think I finally got over my camera jitters after jumping into periscope a few months back which probably has a lot to do with the fact that I teach an awful lot. So here it is, now located on youtube (because I have a youtube channel now too - check it out!)

I also started playing with my Macro Lens that I got for my cell phone's camera. I'm gonna blog about that tomorrow but here is a peek at a photo I posted on istagram with it.

Especially as an artist, a mom, a teacher, a baker, and a wife.

I was supposed to teach a class this weekend on the Fermentation Suint Method. Last year I had a FULL class, this year, enrollment was low. It happens. It bums me out. But sometimes it is a blessing in disguise.

Because class got cancelled....

Instead of finishing prep work and handout Friday evening, I worked on cleaning my neglected yard and found a small bounty of morels out back for a special dinner.
I got to see Adele march in the parade on Saturday at the Tulip Festival in Holland. It was a great parade even if it was windy and freezing. We stopped at an amazing greenhouse on the way home that looked super intriguing and Joe bought me some really unique flowers for my honeybee loving garden.
aaaaaaaand, I got to spend some LOOOOOONG overdue quality time with JUST my sister. I wish I had thought to take a picture of us. We went shopping and had coffee and it was delightful. <3

Joe just took Gareth to the grocery store and I'm about to head off to the studio.
First, I love the box it came in. I don't know if it was because this was maybe a floor model, but the velcro on the box lid is genius. I will be storing it back in it's box often since this will be a teaching tool for me and it will really help with the longevity of it.

Second, I love that their brand is always so bold on their equipment. I was just at an antique store today and could no longer read the back of a hand card. I want to know a piece of equipment's history long after it's original owner is gone. This brush is the same as the one I purchased at SOAR from them. Their drumcarder comes with a wide one. I get that in September. Did I mention that? I may be a little bit excited.

Third, Grace is awesome. Grace Shalom Hopkins that is. About a year ago I sent some fiber to Grace for her book CARD. She did great unboxing's (find mine HERE!) for all of the products that were sent to her and also was kind enough to provide a copy of the book we were a part of. You can find CARD for purchase here.

Recently, she has gotten really active on YouTube with free demo videos. My favorite type of "how to" videos are ones that have very little to no talking and are edited with music rather than any noise from the actual recording. Visual learning is what works best for me.

I watched this video in the car on the way to brunch today and proceeded to card up 9 really great rolags several hours later. They were recognizable as MY fiber, which was key. I had played with it the first night I had it home and liked my results... but didn't love them.

At first, hadn't thought this would be a tool I would use for items for sale but I am reconsidering... I can sit and watch TV with the family while I do this, a major perk. I'm thinking maybe some limited runs in current colorways to start.
These are all carded in my Truffle Berry colorway. The grey has far less blending in my smooth version of this colorway both as a batt and as rolags. I'm working on getting some locks and fleece dyed in these colors for some Betty Batts in a small update coming soon.

In the mean time, if you are looking for something lovely for your blending board or carder, Rita from Yarn Hollow just added some super scrumptious 4 oz gradient packs of american Targhee to her Big Cartel shop. Super floofy and ready for blending!
I had wanted one for a while because students kept asking me about them, and while I always said they were a slightly different economic alternative to a drum carder, I could never quite tell them how I felt about them.

I kept seeing people make their own blending boards. I didn't want to go through the trouble and didn't see it being much more cost effective.

I talked to the Clemes fellas at SOAR Chicago in 2013 about their blending boards, the cloth, and a little bit about carders. I was convinced at that point that the cloth that was available to me wasn't worth it for sure at that point. I walked away with a new brush for packing and some serious perspective on how few manufacturers are making quality carding cloth. Unfortunately, I was a very new mom and Joe's work circumstances weren't great so it was not the best time for me to buy new equipment.
I came home with a blending board.... and I pick up my new carder this September at Wisconsin Sheep & Wool. I will be vending there a 3rd year in a row sharing a booth with Dani of Pumpkinhaus for a second year in a row. I didn't propose any classes this year but Clemes & Clemes are offering some great classes with their equipment. If you are on the fence about taking the class, contact Roy, I am sure he can talk you into it.
I'm offering a two day workshop on washing fleece using FSM where we will also take a look at different fleece types and how to process them with a tiny bit of dying thrown in the mix. This class was terrific last year and was largest group I have ever had at Tillers! It was great fun and I took loads of pictures but do you think I can find any of them now? Will keep searching and hopefully can add them in at some point!

All of the rain last week meant I could have had two very large bins started but because of various methods I have adopted in the last year for cleaning my fleece, I don't use this method as often because I wash my fleece as I need it. (A whole other post, seriously.) I had a smaller bin handy since I don't want to overwhelm my students. A quick pick through this Border Leicester and it was into bags!
Unfortunately, I realized all of my mesh bags were at the studio so I had to make a quick trip to the Family Dollar. They didn't have any plan ones but they did have these really nice Gain ones for $1.50 a piece! The next size up was the exact size of my bin if I laid it flat!

I just got back from vending at the very first PLY Away retreat about a week ago and am still digesting the whole amazing experience. Work and life back home of course keeps on going so on to the next thing! (Don't worry, I took loads of pictures at PLY Away and am very excited to share more in depth stories behind all that I shared on IG and the few I held back for here!)
In preparation for my Rainwater Fleece Prep class at Tillers International in a couple of weeks, I thought it would be appropriate to get a Fermentation Suint bath going again. It has been just over a year since my last one and for a couple of years I was cleaning fleece using this method combined with some Unicorn Power Scour as a final scour after the bath.

I did a lot of research on the method and really enjoyed learning about it's history which I talk about in the class quite a lot.

May is acting a bit more like April should have been with loads of rain and semi chilly temperatures here in the mitten. While warmer temperatures would be nice, the rain was welcome as I needed to start my bath by collecting some natural rainwater. You can use softened water for this also but, A. I don't have soft water and B. if we are gonna go with a natural method, might as well go all natural right?

I like to leave a few large opaque totes out on my deck just under the edge of the roof for this. It collects quickly, especially if we are getting heavier rains!
Wednesday I will select a fleece to start the bath so that I can give each student a jar of a good example of a suint bath since it is impossible to complete the fermenation suint method (FSM) in a weekend. It is incredible how something as simple as the natural greases in the fleece create their own soap! No wonder this method has been used for centuries! I moved into a studio. Another artist was in need of a studio mate and I jumped at the chance.
These fibers were from my first batch of washing and dying in this amazingly equipped space. I feel like I have won the lottery, it is pretty much a dream setup. FOUR utility sinks, loads of heat sources for dying, a washer so I can spin water out.. man, it's great.

I also am starting to carve out time to get back to some work that I have had in my head for a while. I finished cabbing the Montana Moss Agate in the center above just before the Fall term was up. I know I am pairing it with this piece of fossilized coral I bought at a rock shop up in Beulah, MI several years ago and a tip of an Icelandic sheep horn.... just don't know how yet. You can watch progress on my rock and non-fiber jewelry adventures on Instagram under the name thecuriousatelier. I wanted to separate this body of work as I started getting back to my jewelry and rockhound roots but there will of course be overlap, hence the sheep horn.
Tonight I was in the studio later than ever but sometimes that is just the way life goes. I had wanted to get in on Sunday but unfortunately blew out a tire on my way back from visiting friends Saturday night. Being stuck on the side of a major highway till 2:30 in the morning waiting for road side service kinda puts a damper on productivity the next day. I did manage to get everything above and then some scoured and dyed. There will be loads of batts for Wine & Wool Festival this weekend at Sandhill Crane Vineyard! I had already started this a few months back as I'd like to have a better landing page for all things Bricolage Studios. Ideally it will all be on my SHOP page because I would prefer to narrow my focus on just a few platforms (my Big Cartel and my Instagram account) instead of stretching myself thin using ones I don't enjoy as much.
This brings about that whole reflection thing. It is the start of a new year and I feel like if I can just get things off on the right foot, it will be a fulfilling, bustling, exciting year full of growth and patience. Patience with myself, with change, and with my business, and whatever else life throws at me.
I want to feel good about me and enjoy the times when my whole family manages to be in the house at once. It is rare these days.

I want to not get in the way of myself. Anywhere. Period.

I have never taken much stock in resolutions, but I know what makes me happy and what prevents me from being that way and that I can make those changes. The start of the new year is as good of a time as any to make those changes.
Cheers!

This is my mood board. It changes subtly every so often and is a carefully curated mixture of beautiful postcards of people's work I am drawn to, pictures of my own work, biz and postcards of friend's work who I find particular great, trinkets, things Adele made me when she was little, comics, Gareth's tag from his little hospital bed proudly stating, "I'm a boy!" and photos.

Do you have a mood board? I find it really centering to stare at mine for a bit. It shows all stages of my work either through symbolism or completely literally in the case of the photos and pieces of my work I pin here and there. Sometimes I turn from my bench and pin a piece up there to view it differently.

It is so tidy in these photos. I have since added, subtracted, and gotten a little sloppy with overlapping additions.

I have classes, workshops, shows, and soccer games (I can't wait to see my niece play!) scheduled for basically every moment of every weekend for the next several weeks. I am going to try to keep everyone posted here in the coming weeks as to what I will be up to but you can also check my facebook page for the most up to date information.

This weekend?

Get yourself to Yellow Door Art Market. It is their annual birthday celebration so all of those delightful handmade goodies made exclusively by Michigan artists (including mine!) will be 15% off!

Can't make it to Yellow Door? Starting tomorrow, October 2, 2104, I will be adding several necklaces and cuffs from my Cosmic Poppy line to both of my shops. I have been trying to move away from etsy in the last year to Big Cartel because of various changes etsy has made that I do not agree with so as a compromise rather than doing it entirely all at once, I will only be offering made to order listings there. More about that later but in the mean time, here is a sneak peek at a matching pair and of the colors available.

aaaaaand some of these goodies are still available from my update the other day in the Big Cartel shop.

But seriously, I didn't know how to title this one so it kind of became word salad.

So on to the main course. (Did you see what I did there?) Quite a few years ago I was on a podcast that Debi Rodriguez of Michigan Spinning that
she recorded during one of the first fiber festivals that I vended. We won't talk about how terrible my booth was/looked but should you be curious, Debi also captured photographic evidence on her old blog that you can find here. I met a lot of
incredible people at the show (Debi included,) who have really had a big impact on my
life. I have been thinking a lot about how much that humble show did for
me and the path I have been on since then.

My friends Rick and Laura of Queso Cabeza Farm
used to organize these really great little fiber shows. The summer one
took place at a little place called Sidetrack Ice Cream in Marshall, MI.
Between 15 and 20 vendors (I may even be over estimating this!) used to
line up right next to the ice cream shop which, aptly named, was
flanked by the railroad tracks. It was the first outside "fiber show" I
ever went to and even with it's small size, I was a bit overwhelmed. I
went on to participate in the show and their Fall one (we'll get to that
in a minute) until it just became too much for them to run. It is a
small wonder they found the time to begin with, but Rick and Laura seem
to always find time to go out of their way and be kind. Like just last weekend, they had a break from showing their sheep in Wisconsin and not only came to visit me in my booth, but ran and grabbed me a coffee since I couldn't get away. Super sweet. Also, how they always come and see me when I have a booth at Kalamazoo on the Mall. They are awesome.

Anyhow, these little shows really gave me a place to experiment and grow, and figure out my displays, and that I needed a better festival tent, and that people did actually want to buy my work. It was at the Fall show that I met Kate of Omaspatch and Lynn from Smudged Textiles. They were both participating in a quilt art show that was going on in conjunction with the festival. Kate makes these really great artful stuffies and Lynn does all things fiber and they are both pretty incredible. They also were some of the first people to purchase my jewelry. I have since purchased items from both of them and Joe and I shared beers and scrumptious food with Kate and her husband at Jolly Pumpkin a shared Ann Arbor favorite of ours. I really admire both of their work and adore the fact that we have shared friends and acquaintances all across the state (and country for that matter) that have happened completely independently of our meeting and friendships. The internet is an incredible thing, but fiber and art seem to transcend even that.

I also met a close friend and collaborator at the summer show and then we vended at the fall one in question together. My dear friend Dani of Pumpkinhaus and her husband Joe are two of my favorite people. After that first damp, cold day at Cornwell's, my husband and I took them for a warm meal out at the Walldorff Brewpub in Hastings. Beer and Octoberfest fare? Can't go wrong there. Plus it seems that wool loving people also love beer. :D Dani and I collaborate and often share booths (and beers!) and might never have actually met if it hadn't been for her recognizing my business name from etsy when she wandered into my booth. Etsy has gotten so vast now, I'm not sure that is very possible anymore!

So what am I saying with all of this? Well. That I'm finally starting a podcast, so I can really dig into some heartfelt conversations with all of these amazing people who have helped shaped my path as an artist and really a person. Why? Because I think that people need to know they are appreciated, that they can make a difference, and that as artists, no matter what kind, that we are not alone in this lonely occupation. So please, check out my other blog that will be the companion to the podcast and look for the podcast, because it will be coming quite soon. It's called Bricolage Art Talk and you can find it HERE.

Also, thank you for reading this far if you have. I hope the Fiona Apple-esque length of the title would warn you enough while also getting you interested. Either you really love me, or something work.
Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03597570721624735891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606207992587128364.post-49286968700421759542014-02-08T11:05:00.001-08:002014-02-08T11:05:13.338-08:00Lots of new goods in the shop!

I've lost some people in the last week's time. People I loved, that I hadn't seen in some time, and that I have precious early family memories from my childhood and recent lovely memories

Someone who had me try Dr. Pepper for the first time, in Texas. Because us Northern folk hadn't even heard of the stuff, and who knew that it was number one above Pepsi AND Coke in that state.

Someone who called me Hoots, "Hia Hoots!" in that southern accent that made you wonder how he ever could have grown up in the mitten.

Someone who caused me to be in my first wedding, and this flower girl forgot to throw the petals till she was at the alter. Someone whose bride wore lavender, and I thought that was really neat, still do.

Someone who was my first pen pal. Nevermind that I only heard from him on Holidays (because he called my Grandma,) and near birthdays (because Aunt Jean did it for him.)

Someone who gave me a, "Somebody in Texas loves me." shirt when he surprised us with a visit while camping. I remember I outgrew that shirt, and it was so special to me that I was horrified and threw a fit when my mom gave it away to some friends of ours. A memory I'm still a bit embarrassed about, because I realized much later that it was just a shirt and it was given to someone less fortunate than I.

Someone who messed up my Minnie & Mickey teeter totter puzzle SO bad when I accidentally left it behind that I had to cheat to solve it. Then I messed it up just as bad.

I lost someone else too...

Someone who bought me sparkly things on an afternoon out to Maggie's Hallmark. Girls love sparkly things.

Someone who was my mum's best friend.

Someone who always had a soft spot for me.

Someone who had a pool where I could NOT reach the bottom still, and it scared me, but I loved being there.

Someone who read me Pandora's Box when Mom had to run off to work.

Someone who made a GREAT Kahlua and cream.

Someone who made Chili just as comforting as my mom's.

Someone who made me laugh.

Someone who helped keep my mom sane during wedding planning, who made me the most beautiful complement to my dress, that I will cherish. Always.

Someone who had a tough exterior and the softest heart.

I'll miss her very much. Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03597570721624735891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606207992587128364.post-89241554360368431612013-08-15T13:16:00.000-07:002013-08-15T13:16:54.953-07:00Just updated some things.. Hey all! I've been very absent from my blog but, I have been very busy doing lots of things I have wanted to blog about! Unfortunately, most of them will have to wait for another day.

Today's blog? What is it's purpose? Why to tell you all about how I updated every other thing on my blog and in my shop. :D

My class schedule for the fall has been updated under my, "Classes and Workshops" heading, my show schedule (though a very short list at this point!) has been updated under my "2013 Schedule" heading and also includes a few exhibitions I am a part of in the coming months, AND the shop got updated last night.

I think that just about covers it... I will have some really exciting posts (at least to me!) about my adventures in the Fermentation Suint Method (FSM) for washing fleeces.

Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03597570721624735891noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606207992587128364.post-35758087228541782552013-05-01T14:28:00.003-07:002013-05-01T14:28:20.693-07:00Fiber Art Rolags! Last week I debuted the first set of these fiber art rolags, but I wanted to make sure that I gave credit to the amazing fiber artist who shared her method of creating them. Right now blending boards are all the rage for creating these lately, and while I knew I could make one for less than I could purchase one, (and they are in fact reasonable!) I didn't think I needed to acquire yet another piece of fiber equipment before at least a little experimentation.

Then I discovered Michelle Snowdon of Wooldancer had posted an incredible video on her site of how she creates her beautiful rolags right off of her carder.

In her beautifully filmed and edited video, Michelle shows not only how to create them, but how to spin them.

I love spinning rolags, especially on my drop spindles because I find it is easier to manage than a strip of a batt or roving when I am already worried I'll drop it or get tangled! I'm hoping to film a video soon demonstrating this so look for that soon!

Anyhow, I am addicted to making these things now. They are bit more time consuming than just making a batt since you are individually pulling them off of your carder, but they are definitely worth it for the results.

These ones are heading for the shop tonight at 8 PM EST along with some Betty Batts.
I am obsessed. On it every day and pinning constantly... I was shocked to find out that I now have almost 70 boards. How did this happen!?!?

Well, I gotta say, my ipad and the pinterest app itself have probably been the biggest lifesavers since having my sweet boy. When he falls asleep, I can at least dive into a world of ideas for when I have time to work on new jewelry, displays, and getting my booth just so. It has made me feel like I was actually able to work when I wasn't actually creating. Research right?

Fabulous ideas like using vintage wooden thread spools for price tag holders
... and thanks to Vintiquities Workshop's Blog, and her tutorial on making a jewelry display bust, I was able to tweak her design a bit to suit the displays I had created in 2013 to become everything I hoped for and more.
The paint job on the bust itself is one of the coolest and most simple ideas I discovered on pinterest. It is an Elmer's glue tutorial. Whaddya need? Two colors of paint, some brushes, the items you wanna paint, and some wood glue. THAT'S IT! Here's the link to the tutorial on their site.... and here are some in progress photos. :D
I also finished 15 new necklaces today. You saw a peeky gander of them above on my new display piece but here are a few more nice peeks and closeups.
I can't wait to get started on more of these, bracelets and earrings to come also! These are in preparation for the MSU Arts and Crafts Fair on May 18-19. I'll be sharing a booth with my good pal Faun. She will be displaying and selling her rad prints and is so much fun, I can't wait!
As Spring starts to shine (or rain really...) in my neck of the woods, I am seeing little glimmers of hope for warm lovely weather as my Day Lilies and Irises show their lush green leaves.

I have begun teaching again (a post for another day!) and have fired up the dyepots to replenish my personal stash for batt making again, frantically working on new jewelry designs for an upcoming show, and am loving being a mommy. Life for my sweet family is anything but settled still, but the promise of warmer weather certainly helps raise our spirits.

Something else that helps raise my spirits? All the amazing vegetables and herbs I have started seeds for our raised beds that will be happening this year.

Also, COTTON!!! :D Dear Laila of laigrai fibers hosted a beautiful vintage spin along a couple years back which came with a gorgeous cotton boll. I plucked the seeds from it with hope that I would be able to grow it at some point and happened upon them carefully sealed away in their little envelope.

I can't wait to be able to use some of my very own home grown fiber. I am hoping it will be ready in time for me to dye it up at Tiller's International's natural dying class this July.

Did I mention I updated the shop? There are several batts awaiting new homes to be spun or felted into lovely things. Many of these ones are packed with some super deliciously soft merino and absolutely amazing glossy soft curly locks.

Next shop update will be filled with luscious locks and handspun goodness! Emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03597570721624735891noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606207992587128364.post-17690501182409655952013-03-18T14:10:00.002-07:002013-03-18T14:11:09.009-07:00a word about noveltyor several....

So the ol' term "novelty yarn" is really starting to grind my gears. I never really used the term before, and then was completely put off by it when I took a class with Jacey Boggs a couple years ago. She seems to feel the same and definitely put the reason why into perspective for me.

Sitting in front of our class she asked us what we thought of when we heard the word novelty and my mind jumped to the crap you find at tourist traps... which was kinda what she was getting at.

I started teaching again a couple of weeks ago, teaching spinning for the first time. These wonderful students who are beginners have already heard this term and are asking about it. While I am happy that I am able to dissuade them from using it about their beautiful yarns, it is disheartening that it is becoming so commonly used.

To all of you out there who use it in your listings, teaching, in books and other print, I have one thing to say. I urge you to PLEASE STOP!!!

Here's why:
My last post I hoped that next time I blogged it would be with photos of my sweet little man. I had wondered at that point if I could even get any bigger. I could... and did.
That was just 4 days before I went into labor... holy jeez I can't believe I was that size.

36 hours of labor ended in a C section. Not what I had wanted for his birth but totally worth it because wee Gareth was perfect. 8lbs 6oz born on August 29, 2012. Three years to the day since I married my amazing husband. I don't think we could have gotten a better anniversary gift.
